FAQs
What is SRX7?
SRX7 is short for Spec-RX7. Spec-RX7 is a race group consisting of over 40 very equally matched race cars. On a typical MARRS race weekend, over 30 SRX7s will compete in the race. All of the SRX7s have been built from 1981 - 1985 Mazda RX7s. SRX7s are built to "Show Room Stock" specifications with the exception a few modifications explicitly allowed by the SRX7 rules. The complete rules can be found at 2008 Spec RX-7 Rules
What makes SRX7 less expensive?
SRX7 rules were designed so the cars can remain street legal without giving up a competitive advantage. By requiring SRX7s to keep things like emissions controls and stock gauges, the racing enthusiast on a budget isn't forced out of the sport because they don't want to invest in an expensive tow vehicle and trailer. While most of the competitors do trailer their SRX7s to the track. We still have several racers who drive their SRX7 to the track. Most of them consistently run in the top 10. Last season a couple of them took home multiple top 5 trophies. And one even took home a first place trophy. Way to go Nitro!!!
The cars themselves aren't that expensive either. A proven top 3 car can usually be purchased for under $4500. A running 1981 - 1985 Mazda RX7 can usually be found for under $1000. And it's not uncommon to find a decent parts car for under $500.
What is MARRS?
MARRS stands for the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series. It is a series of 9 or 10 races (10 races in the 2005 season) spread out over the year between the months of April and October. In each of these events, individuals compete against other drivers within their race group for trophies, points, and bragging rights. For more information on the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series, check out the SCCA Washington, DC Regions website at www.wdcr-scca.org.
What if I can't make it to every event? Does that mean I don't stand a chance at the championship?
Since it is difficult for most people to compete in every event, each driver's lowest two(2) scores will be dropped when determining the season championship winner for each race group.
